Perguntas frequentes

Frequently asked questions

What is S1–S5 prudential segmentation?

It's the classification the National Monetary Council (CMN) uses to sort Brazilian financial institutions by size and international activity, from S1 (largest) to S5 (smallest), established by CMN Resolution No. 4,553 of 2017. The segment determines which prudential requirements and reporting obligations apply to the institution.

What is a prudential group?

It's the scope that defines the consolidation perimeter used in supervision: which entities are looked at together for prudential requirement purposes. An institution can be treated as single or as a conglomerate, and the group's composition changes the volume of applicable rules.

Is this simulator's score an official Central Bank index?

No. It's ChatBCB's own model for sizing, in a comparable way, how much regulation applies to a profile. The Central Bank of Brazil does not publish a regulatory pressure index, and the result here does not replace legal analysis.

Why do Pix and Open Finance count toward the score?

Because each brings its own body of regulation, with operational, security and reporting obligations that only exist for participants. Participating in Open Finance by partnership weighs more than optional or mandatory participation because it adds the arrangement's obligations on top of responsibility for the partner.

Why doesn't the raw score have a fixed ceiling?

Because the regulatory obligations (CADOCs) that apply to each institution vary: the more regulatory documents an institution must file with the Central Bank, the higher this part of the score. Prudential group, prudential segment and regulated ecosystems combined have a fixed ceiling of 105 points, but CADOCs add up with no ceiling. To show a percentage, the raw score is normalized against a reference scale of 249 points — profiles well above that show up at the gauge's ceiling, but the raw number stays visible alongside it.

Where do the rules ChatBCB uses come from?

From the official database of the Central Bank of Brazil and the National Monetary Council. Every answer cites the number, date and URL of the rule used, and citations are checked against the database before being shown. Learn about ChatBCB or request a demo.
